Mera Bharath Mahan, is a quote that has come to accompany a sense of national prestige and pride to me. Ever since i could remember attending classes this and many other quotes like 'yeh mera India I love my India' and 'bharath matha ki jai' have been embedded in my mind. Often on passive ocassions when i broode over the topic i am amazed that such cultural, physical an geographical diversities exist in one nation. Is it possible? The answer is YES! But lately i am feeling that we have chosen to alter the answer to an arrogant NO.
What am i coming to? I wont go round the mulberry bush, here it is:- AYODHYA! The name is awe inspiring! The very sound signifies might! AYODHYA. And it truly does stand upto its name. It has been dignified as the birth place of lord RAMA. What better way to prove the might of the word! In the history of Independent India Ayodhya has(had) another significance, a 500 year old structure that was built in 1527 by order of Babur the first mughal emperor in India. As an existing system of social superiority in those days the invading armies would demolish the religious shrines of the host and replace it with their buildings.
Ayodhya being the birth place of Lord Rama, gives emotional attachment to believers for that place. When these emotions and the right amount of political strings were pulled in the right place, the place became a burning issue and the rest as you all know is history. History goes down in history (as was the case of the babri masjid). A great structure came collapsing down. But in a sense it was not just the structure that collapsed, the Integrity of India went along with the shambles. 17 years later the flames are still searing hot. Please take the effort to know more about the amount of religious killing that happened during that period. How many innocent lives were lost because the place was the birthplace of Lord Rama? Or because some ancient king who belonged in an era of battles and conquest decided to build a Mosque in an area that he had conquered? What burdens do past happenings bear down on the present generation?
Yet again; when we look at it in another light, any other country would give importance to its fundamental religion only. What would Saudi Arabia do if this predicament happened there? Non-Muslim countries have even proposed a ban on burqas. No case goes on over there for 17 years. India is essentially 'Hindustan' or the land of Hindus. And the place in question happens to be a place of great religious significance for the Hindus. The religious freedom provided in India is like nowhere else in the world. People should learn how to make use of this privileges rather than misuse it for personal gains.
Please give me your suggestions to my idea as to what should be done with the piece of land. Why not build an orphanage or some kind of shelter to house people who suffer the consequences of selfish political ambitions?? We can rectify our wrongs for sure there.
